Portrait of Laura Petka

Laura Petka

Laura Petka is a Texas-based contemporary abstract artist known for large-scale, textured paintings that anchor interiors with depth and dimension. Her signature clusters of layered, sculptural paint set against smooth passages of calm have made her work a favorite of collectors and interior designers seeking original abstract art with both presence and meaning. Laura's love of painting began at a young age and led her to the business side of fine art, where she served for six years as director of Christopher Martin Gallery, a high-end gallery in Dallas, Texas.

That experience gave her a deep understanding of the art market and of what discerning collectors look for, a perspective that still shapes her studio practice today. After the birth of her second child, Laura began painting seriously, with a dream of creating accessible yet upscale original artwork for collectors like her own young family. A year into that focused work, she and her husband learned they were expecting twins, and that one of the babies was already facing a critical illness before birth. The twins arrived prematurely, and her son Hayes spent most of his first year in the hospital, undergoing five surgeries.
