Kathleen Holmes
Kathleen Holmes is a mixed-media artist who combines crocheted textiles with rusted, pierced, and shaped metal. She uses found and handmade crochet as a metaphor for the patterns of her native Southern culture, turning traditional handwork into powerful and often innocently ironic domestic icons. The metal stands for the man-made side of culture, a counterpoint to the woman-made textiles.
Holmes received a State of Florida fellowship award for 2006. Her work has been exhibited at the Mitchell Museum at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Illinois, and she has been represented by galleries including Chappell Gallery in New York and Boston. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, offers original work by Kathleen Holmes.
