John Schuyler

John Schuyler is an abstract painter based in South Florida, known for layered paintings, many on linen, influenced by his natural environment and especially the horizon, where earth meets sky. Born in New York, he moved to South Florida and began painting in the late 1990s. The horizon grounds his work in a sense of place without limiting what can be experienced there, combining image, color, and light with texture, design, and balance.

Schuyler works by layering, pouring, and scraping away paint, leaving traces of earlier stages so each painting reveals itself slowly. Rather than starting with a fixed outcome, he lets each piece unfold on its own, inviting viewers to explore the relationship between space and depth, presence and absence. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, represents John Schuyler.
