Doug Powell
Doug Powell is an Orlando, Florida, artist known for mosaics made from upcycled computer keyboard keys, arranged to create the illusion of three-dimensional form. Ripley's Believe It or Not! acquired his portrait of Steve Jobs, and his portrait of Princess Leia, made from 6,590 keys, made the front page of the Orlando Sentinel. His work has been shown in Ripley's museums across North America and Europe and is in collections including Intel Corporation, Mary Kay, the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C., and the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.
Powell's work continues a long tradition of artists reusing materials and found objects, from Amish quilters and folk artists to Picasso, Joseph Cornell, and Robert Rauschenberg, while giving discarded manufactured objects new life. He has exhibited at Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami during Art Basel week, winning Spectrum Miami's Director's Award in 2017 and 2018. His work was included in "Florida Grown" at the Orlando Museum of Art, and he has won Best of Show at the Art Comes Alive International Exhibition in Cincinnati. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, represents Doug Powell.
