David Skillicorn
David Skillicorn is an abstract painter based in New York and Massachusetts, known for luminous, joyful abstractions and his Botánica series of floral abstracts. Before turning to painting, he spent 20 years as a documentary filmmaker and won an Emmy Award. He was inspired to paint after watching a master painter at work at dawn during a film shoot on Cape Cod. His work is in collections including Pfizer, Chase Bank, Adobe Systems, Intel, Johns Hopkins, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and it has been shown at the Fitchburg Art Museum and the Attleboro Art Museum.
Skillicorn's work has grown more meditative and minimal, seeking maximum impact through simplicity and clarity. He explores subtle variations of primary colors and increasingly brings in neutral tones, and he draws inspiration from the changing seasons outside his studio in rural New England. "The real purpose of painting is to give pleasure," he says. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, represents David Skillicorn.
