Christopher Peter
Christopher Peter is a Boston-based painter known for layered mixed-media works that blur the line between figure and landscape. He began his career in Phoenix, Arizona, studied art at Arizona State University, and now works from a studio in Boston's SoWa Arts District in the historic South End. Along with acrylic and oil, he works in handmade papers, gold leaf, vintage roadmaps, and repurposed book pages, giving his paintings rich texture and a sense of history. His work has been shown at galleries including Slate Gray Gallery in Telluride and Glave Kocen Gallery in Richmond, in solo exhibitions at the Boston Design Center, and at AQUA Art Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2017.
Peter's Silhouette paintings start with a carefully treated surface, then collage or abstract backgrounds made with poured paint, before a figure is built on top of the layers. He draws inspiration from his garden and the seasonal blooms of his South End neighborhood. In 2024 he completed his largest work to date, an 18-foot-long commission featuring life-sized figures. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, represents Christopher Peter.
