Portrait of Alexandra Squire

Alexandra Squire

Alexandra Squire is a Maryland-based minimalist abstract painter whose work is built by blending and layering vibrant shades with muted tones. Influenced by Mark Rothko, Piet Mondrian, and her grandmother, who was also a painter, she channels the euphoria she felt exploring museums in her youth. Rothko's color block paintings showed her a way to tell a story without depicting one, and her own work stays open to interpretation.

Squire paints on canvas and wood, and she sometimes finishes her wood panels with multiple coats of resin, giving them a smooth, glossy depth. She also paints on acrylic blocks. Slowly blending darker colors into lighter ones, she makes paintings that are simple yet deceptively complex, a reminder that growth cannot be rushed. Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, represents Alexandra Squire.
